is newly categorized to a unique genus,Whispovirus, by sequence and trancriptional evidence.

Beside the sequence comparison information,
recent research results also indicated the unique character of WSSV by
transcriptional evidence. After using the WSSV from both Taiwan and
Thailand, and studying the transcription of ribonucleotide reductase,
thymidine kinase, and thymidylate kinase, the evidence shows there is
rare correlation between WSSV and other pathogens. Thus, the WSSV is
newly categorized to a unique genus.

After-first-spawning is the best timing for the screening WSSV infected brooders.

According to Dr. C. F. Lo's research result (Studies on effective PCR
screening strategies for white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) detection in
Penaeus monodon brooders, DAO), the PCR negative brooders still
can produce WSSV light positive eggs if they were screened before
spawning. But the correlation between the production of WSSV
negative eggs and after-spawning-PCR-negative brooders is absolute in
her study. After collecting more data, the results still showed
the spawning process would be a big stress for the brooders and trigger
off the infected viruses to reproduce themselves. Thus, to avoid
introducing the infected animals into the farming site, it is more
effective to screen the brooders individually and screen after spawning.
