Most of the viral diseases can be transmitted horizontally and vertically.  When we screen brooders and PLs with a great effort, of course we don't want them to be infected by the environmental pathogens.  Potential carriers could play as an useful indicator of the environmental risk of viral epidemic.  In WSSV case, for example, it is very helpful by collecting crabs around the pond, in the inlet water way, and coastal area nearby the farming site to evaluate the condition.  After understanding which place of farming site could be the possible channel to infect the shrimp, the farmer could aim at the place to do more protection, such as block system, water treatment, or disinfection.
