Its most relevant features are the high sensitivity, its specificity, semi-quantitative design, and the internal controls to prevent false positives or false negative results. The system is based on the technology of genetic material amplification, the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), making it the most used system shrimp and fish viral detection at the present.

The sensitivity of IQ2000^TM series are 10~100 copies/reaction. It can detect the infection in early stages, providing more time for the management to formulate disease control strategies. In comparison with common immunoassay systems which sensitivity is far lower (about 10⁴ to 10⁵ times), it is the most reliable and useful tool in viral prevention and detection.

Each IQ2000^TM virus detection system is designed with specific PCR primers for each virus according to their individual conserved nucleic acid sequences to avoid any cross reaction. It also contains special-designed internal control primers for shrimp house-keeping gene with viral specific primers. It means that those primers are specific for their own DNA or RNA sequences and the built-in internal control can avoid false negative results.
