candy_blue.gif Aqua India 2006 "Challenge ahead"International diseases notification

Date: March 3-4

Presentation topic: A new approach in improving the shrimp health: On-site diagnostic system and its high sensitivity as nested-PCR.

On behalf of Farming IntelliGene, Mr. Su Chen, vice president, attended Aqua India 2006 during March 3-4 held in Chennai. The event was well received with 160 participants from the industry.

Disease problem has been regarded as the major threat to the shrimp culture sector. Mr. Su Chen had the honour to deliver a speech on the topic of new developments in disease diagnostics. In his talk he examined the disease diagnostic practices that are commonly adopted in the industry and argued that a real time test result is very important information for every farmer and decision maker.Over the last few years Farming IntelliGene has been devoted into the development of an on-site diagnostic tool for an easier and faster detection. The design of the on-site detection system, brand name I-Screen, combined isothermal nucleic acid amplification with coloration assay technique. It has the same sensitivity as IQ2000 system, nested PCR, and the total reaction time from extraction to final result is around 2 hours.I-Screen requires very simple equipment, a mini-oven, and no PCR experts. This technology breakthrough brought a real excitement to the shrimp farming industry and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the audience attended Mr. SuĦĤs talk in India.I-Screen is currently under some field tests andwill be commercially available very soon.

The Ħ§Sixth Symposium on Diseases in Asian AquacultureĦ¨ was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 25-28, October 2005. We, Farming IntelliGene Tech. Corp., had the greatest honor to be a major sponsor for this triennial event.

The theme of this symposium Ħ§Aquatic Animal Health: Facing New ChallengesĦ¨ covers a broad range of topics such as technological advancements in aquatic animal health, bio-security, risk assessment, codes of practice, better management and regional/international cooperation.

Two key persons from Framing IntelliGene Tech Corp. - Vice president- Mr. Su Chen and Consultant Dr. P. Y. Lee attended this international event. Dr. Lee also made an oral presentation of Ħ§Rapid and sensitive detection of Taura syndrome virus using isothermal NASBAĦ¨. The NASBA technology (Nucleic acid-based amplification) is an isothermal reaction that offers speed, sensitivity and specificity comparable to PCR for pathogen detection.

The next symposium (DAA VII) will be held in 2008.
