Koi Herpesvirus
Detection and Prevention for
Koi carp
Farming (KHV)
|
|
Introduction:
|
|
|
Koi carp has long been regarded as an
important tropical ornamental fish of very high added value in the fish
farming industry in Asia. In recent years, the
industry has been suffering from a severe blow through the infection of Koi
HerpesvirusĦXKHV. The outbreak of KHV is found in some Asia countries,
such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia, as well as in Israel and Europe.
KHV disease process is highly contagious and is
most characteristic by causing massive morbidity and mortality rate ranging
between 80%-90%. According to an Indonesianresearch analysis (Agus
Sunarto et. al, paper presented in 5th
Symposium on Disease in Asian Aquaculture, 14-28 Nov. 2002, Gold Coast,
Australia), the process of KHV infection
in East Java has affected over 5000 fish farmers and caused a loss of US$0.5
million from March to October in 2002. As the trading business of
ornamental fish among Asian countries has been very popular, the prevention
of KHV exposure and quarantine is no doubt a key issue in the protection of
local koi farming industry.
IQ2000TM KHV
Detection and Prevention System is the first viral diagnostic system
specially designed for ornamental fish by Farming IntelliGene. This system
has adopted the design of Nested PCR and also inherited the reliability,
sensitivity and experience from a range of IQ2000TM viral diagnostic kits for
shrimp and fish viral infections. IQ2000TM KHV
has effective and reproducible detection limit of 10 viral copies
while in most cases digit copy of
virus can also be detected. IQ2000TM KHV offers you the best tool for the
prevention of KHV infection.
